New Works

The Green Oasis (Song Cycle)

This set of 5 songs for baritone, cello, and piano portrays the beauty of the natural landscape through the poetry of by Bliss Carman (1861-1929), who was arguably Canada's best known poet. Nature played a large role in Carman's poetry, and his set called The Green Oasis comprises 33 poems inspired by the Canadian landscape. The 5 poems set in the song cycle include June Call, Dance of the Sunbeams, Summer Storm, Summer Streams, and Moment Musicale. The cycle will premiere in April-May 2010.

Chopin Reflected (Piano 4 Hands)

This new work will be in honour of the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth in 2010. It will consist of 5 free variations on a well-known lyrical theme from Chopin’s Scherzo No. 2. One major difference between this work and other variation sets, however, is that the variations will be heard first and Chopin’s theme last as a culmination of the entire work. In this way, the title Chopin Reflected not only describes the work as a tribute to Chopin, but also refers to its reversed theme and variations form. The 5 variations will include a fugue, scherzo, aria, waltz, and a nocturne. The piece will premiere in April 2010.
